She discovered the Privateers when they showed up at the Regal Cinema 20 to take over the theatre during the premier of Pirates of the Caribbean II. Once she talked with the Pirates and found that the main focus was children and the community she decided that "it was a pirate's life for her!"

Bekka's involvement in the community not only includes the Privateers and the Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch, she has one of the most important jobs anyone who cares about the children of the community can have - she is an 8th Grade teacher at Lee Middle School.

In her few precious moments of spare time she relaxes by fishing, reading and honing her photography skills.
